Buick Skylark Runs A While And Dies
Q. I have 1989 Buick Skylark with the 2.5 liter V-Tech engine. Automatic transmission, A/C and P/S. This car will start great when cold, run for about 10 minutes then quit. It will not start until it cools down a bit. There are no codes, the fuel pressure is fine as are the coils. I have replaced the ignition module. I feel as if the crank sensor is the problem, but how can check it for sure?
Thanks,
EddieA. On this particular car it is very hard to check the crank sensor without a scan tool. Most crank sensors can be checked with a volt meter set to AC volts and crank. It should give you a couple of volts output. On this engine, the crank sensor is bolted under the ignition module.
I guess you could pull it out and give it a visual. Then ohm check it for continuity. Then check it in your hand with the volt meter while passing a butter knife over the magnet to see what the voltage reads. Your problem could also be a bad ECM.
