Dodge B250 Van Running Rough

Q. Dear Vincent, I have recently started experiencing a problem with my 1994 Dodge B250 van with approximately 90,000 miles. It has a 3.9 liter motor, A/C, P/S, P/B, ABS brakes, automatic transmission and fuel injection. When cold it starts fine. The problem occurs when the van has warmed up for a few minutes.

It starts running crappy and dies. Then it may take a few moments to get it restarted before I can continue. Sometimes it will run fine after the restart and other times it will chug along for a minute or two before running normally. Also at times when idling in park and I rev the motor, after I take my foot of the gas pedal the rpms drop so low that it seems like the motor is going to quit. I have replaced the Air filter, PCV valve and breather element.

I have also bought a fuel filter but do not know where it is located on the vehicle. The problem seems to be fuel system related but I do not know what specific thing may be wrong.

Sincerely,
David D
Fort Worth, TX

A. You might want to go over the basics first, just to make sure it's not something simple. Back To Basics.

It sounds like the throttle body can use a good cleaning. A throttle body cleaning will cure this problem 9 times out of 10.

The fuel filter is found under the vehicle along the right side frame rail.
