Nissan Maxima Smells Bad!!

Q. I paid to have the catalytic replaced, but the mechanic went out of business for cheating folks. I have a strong sulfur smell. How do you tell if it is the converter or the O2 sensor? Car is a 1990 Nissan Maxima. Had the intermediate exhaust replaced. Just turned 200,000 miles today. Runs fine. Paid to have sensor replace a year ago.

Thanks...

Nissan Maxima Smells Bad!!

A. The "rotten egg" smell indicates an abnormally rich fuel mixture. I would check for codes in the computer and see what they say. If there are no codes stored, then I would want to do a fuel pressure test and see what the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and injectors are doing.
