Loose Steering In A Blazer

Q. Mr. Ciulla, I have a 1988 full size Chevy Blazer 4X4, automatic, tilt wheel, cruise, 350 engine. My problem is the steering column is very loose. Just the upper part. I have taken the steering wheel off but can't seem to get it torn down far enough to reach whatever is loose in the column.

Do you have any advise for me? Anything at this point would be helpful.

Thank You,
Jeff

A. This column is pretty difficult to work on without a few special tools. The turn signal switch, lock cylinder, torx bolts and lock housing all need to come off to get below and access the four loose bolts that hold the whole tilt housing onto the column. There are two tilt pins in the side of the tilt housing that need to be pulled out to remove the housing. Once that is off you will see the four loose bolts.
