Did they do something wrong when putting on the new tires? Could they have caused this?
Tie Rod Ends Bad??
Q. I know next to nothing about tires, but last week I had new front tires put on and now I am having problems. When I drove the car this weekend there a serious vibration when I got to about 40 mph and there is some pulling in the steering. I went back and they told me it's the tie rods which need to be replaced.
Thanks in advance,
JeniA. No Jeni, they didn't do anything to cause the tie rods to be bad, if in fact they are bad. Although they were lax in detecting them before they put the new tires on. They will cause tires to wear out rather quickly.
Usually a vibration at 40 - 45 mph is a classic sign of wheel out of balance, but the bad tie rod ends could cause it as well.
My confidence in this place is shaken a little bit by this and, if it were me, I would roll into another shop to have it checked, just to be sure. Also when all is done, I would recommend a wheel alignment as well. That will greatly lengthen the life of your new tires.
