Altima Window Short
Q. 1993 Nissan Altima. Recently when we started the above, the rear passenger power window went down and refused to go back up. A mechanic replaced the "right rear door amplifier". Within about two days the battery went flat, and the car refused to start.
Using my VOM I discovered a short between the ground and the battery, and I narrowed the short down to the circuit shared by both the power windows and the seat belts. I successively disconnected everything I know of for the seat belts and windows, but still the short persists. Another mechanic replaced the amplifier again. Now the window acts erratic, but the short still exists. I have to disconnect the battery in the evening or the car will not start in the morning.
Would there be a relay causing a problem ? What is the function of the "amplifier" ? (The amplifiers were "used"). Can you help us?
Thanks!!
Sincerely,
TrevorA. I had this very same problem, but with a drivers door power window. What happened was the clip inside the door that secures the wiring harness broke and allowed the harness to rub against the window regulator. Over time as the window went up and down, it wore through the harness and shorted the harness.
Possibly you have the same problem, worth pulling the door panel off and checking.
