Chevy Caprice Speedometer And Cruise

Q. I have a 1993 Chevy Caprice 5.0 liter fuel injection, 71,000 miles, automatic transmission and ABS. Speedometer not working at times. Also cruise control not working at all. Could it be the unit on the transmission? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks…

A. All those systems need an input of a speed signal to work. You should start by checking the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) for working. Make sure the gear inside the transmission is still fastened to the output shaft and not free spinning. Check the wires to sensor.

There is a test that can be done to check the output of the sensor but the wheels need to be spinning, you will need it on a lift.
