Jeep Cherokee Universal Joints
Q. Hello Vincent, Your column on About.com is great! Thank you very much. I recently found out I need both my front Universal Joints (u-joints) on my 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport (inline 6 cylinder engine) replaced. Is this a complicated job? Can I do it myself? If not how much can I expect to pay at a repair shop? Also, would U-joints be included in the powertrain warranty?
Thanks a million!
IgnacioA. The U-joints should be covered under the warranty. I would whip by the Jeep dealer and find out for sure.
If they do need to be replaced I wrote an article on replacing U-joints.
How To Replace Universal Joints Worst case is about three hours labor and, on the average, about $52.00 per U-joint.
