Ford Taurus Overheating?
Q. I have a 1993 Ford Taurus, 3.0 liter engine. I recently replaced the, radiator, the water pump, and the thermostat, I had no problems with the cooling system until my father in-law replaced the thermostat, the car started running hot, the pump went, then the radiator went.
The mechanic said the thermostat was fine, my car now reads hot after only driving one mile, I thought maybe the gauge was off, because it reads hot when I'm stopped. As soon as I go, it goes back to a normal reading. Now it stays at hot after I go one mile.
The car is now leaking but not by the hose. It's got a collection of anti freeze under the heads. The car doesn't smoke when it overheats, however the fan is constantly clicking on and off, I need to get to the root of this problem before I replace any more parts. What does this sound like to you?
Thank you for your time,
MaryA. You not going to like this Mary, but it sure sounds like the head gaskets are blown. This is a very common thing to happen on this engine.
