Sagging Lincoln

Q. We have a 1990 Lincoln Mark VII and are having a problem losing air pressure in the front air suspension bags only. The problem started not long ago and got to the point where the air bags would loose all pressure in about 10 minutes. I got some bags and a compressor/dryer assembly and had them installed.

That worked OK for about 2 weeks. Then, the left front started losing air pressure again. I took it back to the shop and found that the air ride solenoid did not have a seal on it, so he replaced the solenoid. After getting the car home and letting it sit in the driveway for about 1/2 hour, the left front air bag blew. Back to the shop again and another air bag later, we are back to the original problem of the front air bags losing pressure. They will almost completely deflate in about 2 days and when you start the car up, they inflate again (same as in the beginning).

I have done the diagnostic procedure at the computer by grounding the pigtail, etc., and come up with no indication of bad sensors, solenoids or any thing else abnormal. What is going on and how do I fix the problem? My mechanic, the dealer and I are lost. Please help us out diagnosing the problem because I have almost $1000.00 tied up in the same problem already and it is getting expensive, frustrating and dangerous.

Thanks,
Steve

A. Since it seems that all the components have been checked and deemed okay, the only logical place left to look is the air lines themselves. Somewhere there is a leaking line and that, I believe, is where the problem lies. The only way to find the leak would be to use soapy water on the lines and look for bubbles. Find the bubbles and you found the leak.

I would concentrate on the joints first and if that reveals nothing, I would soap down the lines themselves.
