Chevy Corsica DTC 42

Q. The car has a Code 42. Can you tell me a little about this problem? It has something to do with the ignition. A repair shop has looked at it and did not do much and never fixed the problem. I bought a manual but the information is very vague. Any information would be appreciated. Rough idle, dies sometimes and misses at highway speeds and idle.

  • 1991 Chevy Corsica
  • 3.1 liter V-6
  • 130,000 miles
  • Automatic transmission

Thank you,
Mark

A. Code 42 is usually associated with the ignition module. The ECM looks at the module timing circuit for defects. Basically, you need to make sure the spark plugs and wires are in good shape. Then have the Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) looked at with a scanner. If all checks are okay, replace the ignition module.
