Dodge Grand Caravan Quits
Q. Hello, My husband is a firefighter and won' t be home until this Thursday. I hope you can give me some suggestion on my van trouble. 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3 liter. V-6 Model SE 127,000 miles. While driving my van quit! 45 minutes later is started and I drove it all day today with no troubles. I'm scared to death to drive it.
Unfortunately, we live in the country and I drive our son to school 25 miles one way. I pray and hope it doesn't die on me again. Here's what happened. It quit. All electrical lights on the dash were on and it would try and turn over, but not start. I was suggested to open the gas cap. So I did. Didn't start.
45 minutes later tow truck driver shows and let's air out of a fuel release valve and check's my fuses (under the hood). Tried it and it started!! Now what could cause this trouble??? Thanks!!!! for your help!!!! I think I need to find a more reliable vehicle???
Thanks again!!
RobinA. Well Robin, there could be a number of things that can cause this stalling. The most common is the ignition module. When the ignition module gets old, they become heat sensitive. When they get too hot, they stop working. Then when they cool down, they will start working again.
The next time it dies, pull a spark plug wire and plug an old spark plug into it. Lay it down on a metal part of the engine and crank the engine. If the is no spark Then I would say the chances are good the ignition module is bad.
