Pontiac Trans Am Low Coolant Light

Q. I got a 1995 Pontiac Trans Am 5.7 liter V-8. My radiator is full with 50/50 coolant and my low coolant light keeps staying on. Also my coolant gauge keeps reading over 220°.

Pontiac Trans Am Low Coolant Light

A. First we need to determine if it is indeed overheating. If the radiator is full and the belt is turning the water pump, I would scan the PCM to check the coolant temperature sensor data. The gauge may be lying to you. There is also a sensor inside the radiator tank to read coolant level, it too may be bad. You could unplug it and check the low coolant light. If it's still on, try running a ground wire to it and see if it goes out. This will check the circuit from the sensor to the dash light.
