Toyota Pickup Blew It's Top
Q. Hi, I have an 1984 2WD Toyota Pickup 2.4 liter 22R engine. Recently I was on a trip and the dash lights came on while driving, brake and battery. I then looked at my temperature gauge and it was full HOT. I began to lose power and pulled over ASAP. Opening the hood, it was steaming profusely. Upon inspection, the belt for the water pump was broken.
The fan was also flopping around on its mount to the water pump and all the cooling fluid had leaked out of the system. I soon figured out that the water pump was shot and had it towed home. Yesterday, I replaced the water pump and belts and fluid and tried to start it. It turns over, but won't start. I'm not sure if, when the engine overheated, something else went bad. Any suggestions of want to do next would be greatly appreciated.

A. I would see what's missing, spark or fuel. Spray some carburetor cleaner into the carburetor while someone cranks it over. If it starts and runs on the carburetor cleaner, then you have a fuel delivery problem. If it doesn't, then check for spark.
If you have good spark and it still won't run when you spray the carburetor cleaner into the engine, then a blown head gasket becomes a real possibility.
