LeSabre Brakes

Q. Vincent, I have a 1992 Buick LeSabre with a 3.8 engine. It has anti-lock brakes. I believe it is the Teves 4 braking system. My problem is a low brake pedal. Have bleed brakes and get lots of air out of system, but only on front right and rear left wheels.

The other two wheels never have air in them. After bleeding them I have good pedal. After several days pedal starts to get soft again and I have to bleed system again. The last time I bleed the brakes I started bleeding at the master cylinder. When I bleed the front line on the master cylinder I do not get any air but do get lots of fluid coming out.

When I bled rear line I got air. As I would continue to bleed rear line, I sometimes would get air and other times I would get fluid. When I got only fluid, the fluid would barley dribble out of the connection. To me this indicates a bad master cylinder. A new master cylinder is going to cost $130.00. I have no problem with spending the money for a new master cylinder, but I am not 100% sure that this is where the problem is. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

A. While I can't be 100% sure either, I believe the problem is in the master cylinder. What you can do is unbolt the master cylinder from the booster and look at the back of it. I'm willing to bet fifty cents cash money that there is brake fluid there. If there is, then you know 100% that it is bad.
