Cavalier Catalytic Converter
Q. Hi Vincent, I have a problem with my 1993 Chevy Cavalier Z-24, it has 98,000 miles on it, 3.1 liter fuel injected and 5-speed manual transmission. My problem is with the catalytic converter. I need to replace mine (car lugs when warm and hot and smells like rotten eggs) but all the exhaust pipes are welded.
I thought there would be clamps holding all the pipes together. There isn't much room for a hack saw and I really can't afford to take it to a shop. I also have no access to a cutting torch. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
MikeA. First of all, a hesitation doesn't mean the catalytic converter is bad. But, if you need to take it off, you can use a jig saw with a metal cutting blade or a hacksaw on a straight handle. You need to buy a installation kit with the new cat. It will come with two short pipes to connect the catalytic converter to the old system. Remember, measure twice, cut once!!
