Jeep Cherokee Evaporator Freeze Up

Q. I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee with an inline 4.0 liter engine and automatic transmission. Recently I noticed that the liquid line from the evaporator is heavily frosted. I'm assuming that this is also causing the evaporator to freeze up since it creates a restriction for the air flow across the coil from the blower which is functioning fine. It usually takes about 20 to 25 minutes for this to occur.

The other thing that I noticed is that the compressor is not cycling on and off like it previously was. What could be the faulty component?

A. I think installing a new Low Pressure Cycling Switch, part number 05015871AA, will correct the problem.

Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  2. Unplug the wire harness connector from the switch
  3. Unscrew the switch from the discharge line fitting.
