Ford Escort Slave Cylinder
Q. Vincent, I have a 1991 Ford Escort Wagon and I need to know where the slave cylinder is so I can put in some clutch fluid. Many mechanics said they would/could do it, but with many things, it is so much easier to do it myself. It is the standard 5-speed, 1.9 liter engine, with a missing cylinder (haha).
The stick itself is getting rough and has a 'little kid-grinding-their-teeth' sound when I shift it. My mechanic told me that he added fluid, bled the cylinder, and "greased a rod"? Couldn't tell you on that one. It works great after he does that for about 4-6 months, but at $25.00 a grease, it is getting expensive. I know I could do it myself, so I hope you can give me some good suggestions; pictures help to.
Thanks,
Erica (Lucas' Mom)A. Well Lucas' Mom, I'll do my best for you.
You mean the clutch master cylinder, you can't fill the clutch slave cylinder. The clutch master cylinder is mounted on the firewall near the brake master cylinder. If you kind of trace a line from the clutch pedal forward, you'll get an idea of where on the firewall it is. I wish I had a picture for you.
I don't know what rod he's greasing, although I have a good idea and it has nothing to do with your car. Just top off the fluid and you should be okay.
Maybe you can get Lucas to help you find that missing cylinder? It has to be around here somewhere.
