Olds Heater Problem

Q. I have a 1987 Oldsmobile 98 and the fuse box has been replaced and the heater will not work. I have replaced the heater controller and it still will not come on and when it did it only worked on high. Could you please tell me where to begin to look to solve this problem? I tested the wires coming in to the controller and the harness has fire coming to it. I also noticed that when I touch my tester to one of the terminals the bulb glows but not completely what could cause this?

Thanks,
Confused

A. I'm assuming the heater worked porperly before the fuse box was replaced.

Under normal circumstances I would be able to point you in the right direction, but if this is indeed a problem that's developed since the fuse box was replaced, then the most likely problem is a wire crossed or hooked up wrong. If this problem burned up the controller (and here I'm assuming you have Climate Control since you called it a controller) then it probably burned up the second controller if the original wiring problem was not repaired.

Ususally a dim light indicates a feedback due to a bad or missing ground. I would start with making sure all your grounds are in place and in good condition. Also get a wiring diagram and make sure your fuse box wiring was done correctly. Outside of that I can't be of much help to you.
