Dying Dodge
Q. I am sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you may be able to help me figure out what is wrong with my car. I have a 1990 Dodge Shadow, and a couple of months ago it just staled wile I was driving with no warning.
I tried restarting it and it would not, so I sat for a few minutes and it did finally restart. it continued doing that and getting worse to the point I would go out try to start it and it wouldn't start, go inside then go back out 10 minutes later and it would start.
A few days ago I changed the fuel filter thinking that was the problem, it helped for a day then again the car stalled without warning last night and would not restart for like 20 minutes, it stalled again on the way home and I had to wait another 10 minutes. do you have any idea what the problem could be? I thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
Sincerely,
ChuckA. Believe me Chuck, you aren't bothering me, I'm here to try and help you in any way I can. Please, don't hesitate to write me if you have a problem.
I suspect you have a bad ignition module, bad ignition coil or Hall Effect pickup in the distributor. Once it gets hot, it dies and when it cools off it will start working again. To check this when it does die, check to see if you have spark at the spark plugs. If there is no spark, then you have a problem with one of the items I've mentioned.
If you are still getting a spark, then the problem could be with the Auto Shut-down Relay, fuel pump relay or the fuel pump itself. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but as you can see there are a number of possibilities for this condition.
