VW Has Delayed Action A/C
Q. Hey Vincent, Here is my problem, I have a 1996 Volkswagon GTI VR6, I love the car but I have been struggling with the air-conditioning system for almost two years. Whenever I start the car it takes between 5 to 10 minutes before the A/C compressor will kick on, then it works fine with the exception that the idle goes up to 950 RPM and that only happens some of the time.
If I shut the engine off then when I start it back up it will take a few minutes for the A/C compressor to turn back on. I have been to, two Volkswagon dealers, a Volkswagon specialist, a European air-conditioning specialist, and a general air-conditioning shop. I have replaced the A/C compressor, Throttle body (suggested by VW dealer), expansion valve, hi/low pressure switch, and the A/C relay. By now I have a brand new A/C system that still doesn't work! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!! I live in Miami!!!!!!!!!!!
A. The only other things that I can think of that would cause this is the Evaporator Temperature Sensor. If it is bad it won't send a signal or will send the wrong signal. The sensor is located in the front of the evaporator.
The A/C cut-out thermal switch could be bad also, telling the PCM the wrong temperatures.
