Ford F-250 Not Power Stroking
Q. I have a 1997 Ford Powerstroke diesel, I had the transmission coolant hose bust so I fixed the problem and started it back up and the overdrive light was blinking were it says off. It wasn't kicking into overdrive, but when I got the fluid level right light went off and started shifting fine. It happened again now the light came back on and will not shift in overdrive.
I have reset the computer light will stay off for a while and it will shift fine first, second and dive but still no overdrive, then when the light comes back on it shifts harder.and in reverse and first gear it will lug its self down and die. I have checked the fluid a million times it seems to be okay. could you please help me in any way?
- 1997 Ford F-250
- 7.3 liter Powerstroke diesel
- Automatic transmission
- 190,000 miles
- ABS brakes
- P/S, A/C and cruise control
A.
Transmission Control Indicator Lamp (TCIL) will start flashing if an electronic pressure control circuit is shorted or a monitored sensor failure is detected. A code will be stored in the PCM indicating which circuit has malfunctioned.I would suspect an electrical problem since it does reset when you turn the key OFF and goes into fail-safe mode when the malfunction occurs.
