Accord Oil Pan Q. How much is a reasonable repair for a hair line crack in oil pan of a 1997 Honda Accord? I was quoted $570.00 Yikes! Is it difficult to do myself? Many thanks!

A. You didn't mention the engine size, so I'll give you for a four and six cylinder engine.

2.2 liter: The oil pan, from Honda, is about $170.00 and the gasket is $17.00. And it's not really that hard to replace. The Chilton manual will have a step by step on how to do it. It only takes about two hours to do. In my shop the cost would be between $350.00 to 375.00.

2.7 liter: The oil pan, from Honda, is about $214.00 and the gasket is $71.00. It requires a little more work, but can be done by a more advanced DIY. This one, too, takes a couple of hours. In my shop the cost would be between 400.00 to $450.00.
