Volkswagen Jetta Power Windows

Q. Hi, I have a question about my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta III Wolfberg Edition 2.0 liter, standard transmission and has 53,000 miles. The two rear windows in my Jetta don't function, from the switches in the back. They do, however, work from the switches in the center console. I've tried switching on and off the child locks for both the windows, and the safety lock on the door jams.

Still I have no response. The dealership simply told me that they would spend the day with my car, tearing apart my doors, and charging me a ton of labor while they try to find the problem. Obviously this choice is a last resort. Can you help?

Thanks,
Jonesey

A. If it's going to take all day to figure out what's wrong, you better find yourself another Dealer. A decent mechanic should be able to locate the problem in one or two hours, tops.

If both when out at the same time, then I would suspect a power feed problem to the rear doors. This seems the most likely since each rear window has it's own control module and motor.

It is typical German engineering. Why make it simple when you can add tons of switches, control modules and five miles of extra wire.
