Anti-Freeze Smell In Car

Q. Vincent, I have a 1996 Saab 9000 CE and a 1988 Saab 9000 both turbo. It is strange I smell antifreeze when driving especially when the heater is on can it be the heater core? Is there a simply way to diagnose it and is there a simple way to fix it?

Sydney

A. Chances the heater core or the hoses to and from the heater core has a leak. The best way to pinpoint the leak is with a cooling system pressure test.

To replace the heater core is not difficult, it tales about 3.5 to 4.0 hours to do. The heater core itself is a little expensive, about $285.00.
