1970 Chevelle Front Brake Shoes
Q. Vincent: I have a 1970 Chevy Chevelle I'm restoring, and I can't remember how the front brake springs go back together to hold the pads, if I had taken them off I know enough to do one side at a time. I've been looking for a web site with pictures, but have had no luck finding one. If you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
PascalA. There are five springs. Two are hold downs springs that along with little circle washers hold the shoes to the backing plates along with pins with a flat crimp on the end. One is the smallest and goes under the self adjusting lever and rests on the rear shoe.
The other two are different lengths. The short one goes to the primary shoe which is the one with the smaller brake material on it. This goes on the front facing shoe. The rear shoe has bigger surface area and gets the longer return spring. Hope this helps.
