Mustang Questions

Q. I Have a 1995 Ford Mustang GT and my air conditioning control is stuck on mix. This particular selection takes at least 30 minutes to cool the car in the mean time I am smoldering in the heat and humidity. It has cool air coming out of the top dash vents and feet vents, but no middle dash vents. However, it will turn off which is strange.

Also, my brakes are acting funny... at times when you push in the pedal in makes a crunching sound and it feels crunchy, it also does not go very far toward the floor board. It feels like it is not going to stop, but so far it always have.

One more thing, please... it acts very sluggish like it is not getting enough gas to the motor. When I push the accelerator it feels like I am pushing and it is resisting... feels like if I could just push it through... it would POP and take off. I have a new fuel filter and spark plugs so, I am sure it is not it.

Please help, I hate to take to a mechanic and spend a huge amount of cash if it is something easily fixed.

Thanks a bunch,
Angela

A. It's difficult for me to determine if you have three separate problems of if all three are related.

However I believe a vacuum leak could explain all three problems. There is a vacuum reservoir that connects to a vacuum distributor block. The block is connected to the intake manifold that supplies vacuum to the system. The block, coincidentally, sends vacuum to the brake booster unit (hard pedal) and the heating/air conditioning (no mode change) system. It also routes vacuum to the fuel pressure regulator and EGR valve (no power).

First thing I would do is check all the vacuum lines and make sure they are all connected and in good condition. Replace any line that is cracked or split. I would also tee a vacuum gauge into the line from the vacuum block to the vacuum reservoir and make sure there is good vacuum there.
