Nissan Sentra Warning Lights
Q. I have a 1996 Nissan Sentra GXE with around 150,000 miles. Just tonight, the brake light and battery light came on and they stay on. Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem and how to remedy it? The car runs fine and the emergency brake is completely off.
Thanks for any help you can give and thanks for your time.
A. The most likely cause is the alternator. There is a diode pack inside the alternator that when it goes bad, will turn on the dash warning lights like this.
Just to be sure check the brake fluid in the master cylinder and make sure it's at the MAX line. You can have the charging system tested to see if it's charging also. But it could be charging normally and still cause the dash warning lights to come on.
