Ford Explorer Won't Restart When Hot
Q. Vincent, I have a 1994 Ford Explorer XLT, 4.0 liter automatic transmission, 138,000 miles, fuel injected ABS, cruise, A/C and P/S. If it is cold it starts right up. The problem occurs once I have driven it and turn it off to make a stop, it will crank yet not start. I have recently noticed that if I turn the key to the ON position and the "Check Engine" light does not light up it will need to sit for about one hour before the "Check Engine " light comes back and it will start.
The battery and ABS light will always come on. Is it electrical or mechanical? Where should I start?

A. I would say that the ignition control module is bad. If you remove it and take it to your local parts house and they will test it for you. It will be located under the distributor and it will have a long plug and it is held in by two small bolts. It does require a special tool. You can pick it up at most auto parts houses. It is not very expensive, under $10.00.
