Honda EGR Runners: Part 2
Q. Vincent, I am have the identical car, except with 155,000 miles,) and am having the identical problem as the gentleman to whom you responded below Honda EGR Runners. I never would have considered repairing this myself but the detail you provided in your response was outstanding.
However, I am having a problem obtaining the "EGR Plug Replacement Kit" to which you refer. Does "6 EGR port plugs: P/N 17199-PT3-AHM" include the kit or just the plugs? I tried Honda parts sites on the internet and came up empty. So I tried my dealer and the parts guy consulted with the service area and told me there's no such thing as this kit and even just the plugs alone were not available. According to him, "you'll have to bring your car in for this because they have to drill and clean some stuff out."
My dealer quoted me around $400.00 for this service. And from looking around on the internet, this is a common problem for these Accords. Sound's like a nice profit maker for the dealer so I can see why they wouldn't want me to do it myself. This only inspires me that much more to want to do it myself. Can you advise me how to obtain the parts (kit) I need?
Thanks!!
RichPS... Does the kit include the new O-rings for "the EACV and fast idle valve"?
A. There is a kit that contains almost everything you'll need to do the job.
EGR Plug Replacement Kit: P/N 07WAZ-001000A
Includes: Slide hammer10-24 threaded screw
No. 25 drill bit
10-24 tap
30 replacement plugsIf they can't find it by part number, which I find hard to believe, then have them refer to TSB 98-074 dated December 8, 1998. If they still can't find it, find another Honda dealer. There is no reason why you can not buy the parts and do the job yourself.
