Buick Lesabre Stuck In FIRST Gear Q. I have a 1987 Buick Lesabre. It has an automatic transmission with overdrive. It will not shift out of low gear. It looks as if someone has replaced the PCM and it is not low on transmission fluid. The passing gear is hooked up. What would keep it from shifting from low gear? Thank You, Arthur

A. This could be lots of things. The governor gear may be chewed up and not spinning. Does the speedometer read correctly? It may also be a mechanical failure inside the transmission.
