Neon SES Light

Q. Hey Vincent, I own a 1998 Dodge Neon Sport with an automatic 2.0 liter engine, 43,000 miles, fuel injected, power everything, C/C, A/C, and I think rack and pinion steering... not sure. Recently, I had Chrysler replace my faulty head gasket (of no charge, thank God), and supposedly they also serviced my oil and all that good stuff.

Well, I have only driven the car a little over a thousand miles and now there is another problem with it. This morning I started my car, only to have it non-violently shake. The "Service Engine Soon" light came on and stayed on. Well, the oil was a little low, so I put some in and I also put some anti-freeze and water in the radiator.

I drove the car around the neighborhood for a minute and by the time I came back the warning light was still on, but the shaking had quit after a minute or two of being started. I waited about an hour later and started my car up again and the light came on, but there was no shaking. Any help would be appreciated. I'd really like to fix the problem myself so I can become more familiar with the engine, especially since it seems like Neons are prone to be faulty vehicles.

Thanks,
Chris

A. In this case I would take the car back to the dealer who did the work and have them look at it. The chances this is a problem related to the head gasket replacement are very good.

Don't mess with it or they will say it is something you did and give you a bill for the repair. There will be plenty of time for us to play with it later.
