Aerostar ABS And Brake Light
Q. My car started to buck after I had been driving it for about 30 minutes. I took it to a mechanic who discovered that the parking brake was sticking on it. After he worked on it and got it to not stick, the brake light and ABS light came on and will not go off. We have bled the brakes - nothing is wrong with the master cylinder - there are brand new brake shoes all the way around. It is:
- 1994 Ford Aerostar
- V6-3.0 Liter Engine
- Automatic Transmission
Could you please tell me other things to check
A. First thing I would do is disconnect the battery for a few minutes and see if that turns off the ABS light. If the wheels are spun with the key on the computer will see it as a fault and turn the light on. If, after driving, the light comes back on I would then look at the wheel sensors, especially the connectors and wiring. It's possible something was damaged when the work on the brakes was done.
As for the brake light, I would think that the brake light switch for the parking brake is not fully closing. This often happens when brake cables get frozen and the cables don't fully release.
