Acura Legend Problems

Q. 1991 Acura Legend LS Sedan, automatic transmission. I recently had the engine exchanged by a local mechanic. After I picked the car up, I noticed a noise in the front, had a high idle and that the SRS light, horn and cruise control was not working. I had the dealership check it out and they told me that the differential was bad and had no fluids in it.

They also said that the cable reel (I guess the clock spring) needed to be replaced. Did the local mechanic touch the differential and clock spring when he was exchanging the engine and could have damaged the two?

After the dealership diagnoses, I had the differential replaced but I have this strange ticking from the engine and the idle is moving up and down (approximately two second intervals from 1,200 to 1,600 RPM). It appears as an electrical problem and I think it is using the battery. The reason is when I turned the engine off, the ticking was still going on and it drained my battery. Or is this change in idle caused from the clock spring? And what is the estimated time and cost to have this repaired? Please help me out.

Many thanks for you help,
Jason

A. Well, it is very possible they forgot to refill the differential. And without that lubricant it would quickly destroy it.

As for the clock spring, I can't see them having anything to do with that. It is inside the steering column and the only way they could damage it is if they disconnected the steering column from the steering rack without locking the steering wheel.

The idle problem is not connected with the clock spring. And from what you describe there is a problem in the wiring. Since they had the engine in and out it could be anything and anywhere. The best thing to start with is to check the wiring and see if there are pinched or chaffed wires. Check the grounds to be sure they are all connected. A missing or loose ground will cause some strange problems.

It sounds like the Idle Speed Control Valve motor is running and it should be off when the engine is off.
