Gurgling Sunfire

Q. Hi Vince, Yet another question for you that I hope you can shed some light on! I'm bringing the car in this week and would like to have some sort of idea of what the problem might be. The car is a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire with about 75,000 miles.

I have noticed the car has started to make what can be best described as a gurgling noise when I hit the gas pedal. I primarily notice this sound when the engine is cold or recently started but it doesn't discriminate and will do it when it's warmed up also. Can't identify exactly where it's coming from but it almost sounds like it's right under the dashboard.

I hope this is a starting point for you, please feel free to email me with any additional questions!

I appreciate any guidance!!
Colleen

A. It's always a pleasure to hear from you Colleen, even if it is only to ask a question about a problem you are having.

That gurgling noise you hear is the coolant flowing through the heater core under the dash. Evidently some air has gotten into the system, causing the noise.

I would check the coolant level and make sure it is at the proper level. If it is then the cooling system may need to have the air bled out. If the level is very low, you may have a coolant leak that should be found and repaired.
