GMC Sierra 2500 ABS And BRAKE Lights

Q. Dear Vincent, I have a 1999 GMC Sierra 2500 4x4 with approximately 43,000 miles on it. I am having trouble with my ABS and BRAKE indicator light staying on. I bought the truck used in 2002 from a dealer. The original owner was a rental company. After a year of owning it, the ABS light came on and was told that I would have to replace the ABS modulator. I did.

The light came on again about two months ago. It went out, but has just come back on. My questions are:

  1. Do you know of any recalls on the ABS for this truck?
  2. Do you know of others with the same problem?
  3. If so, what have they done to correct it and make it disappear forever?

I appreciate your time.

Sincerely,
Marty

A. A Dealer will be able to run your VIN number through and see if any recalls are open on this truck. There may also be a few Technical Service Bulletins out on ABS problems. TSBs are not recalls but known failures in the systems. It could be a speed sensor issue. Haven't seen many repeat failures of the ABS module or EBCM.
