Stoplights & Thermostat

Q. Hi Vince! I bought a week ago a 1995 Buick Regal Custom, engine 3.1 liter injection, with 130,000 miles, automatic, A/C. It runs perfect. But I don't have rear stop lights on either sides. The auxiliary brake light works only in the middle of the rear window. I checked the bulbs and fuses, they are okay.

The wires seem to be good as well. I read your answer to a similar case (Chevy Lumina 1995 3.1) but my stop lights don't work when I am using the turning signals. What do you think about this problem? One other thing is that the engine is too cold. I decided to change the thermostat, but I withdrew when I examined how difficult to approach it. I had changed a thermostat in a 1993 Chevy Lumina, it was a piece of cake compared with mine. Could you suggest a simple way?

Thank you very much!
Boxi

A. The stop lights go through the turn signal switch, you may have a bad one. Also it could be the stop lamp switch at the brake pedal. This should not be too expensive to have someone look at. Same with the thermostat. With all the air tools out there, a good tech could have it done in an hour more or less.
