IACV Question

Q. Good morning, I have a 1989 Chevrolet, C1500 series, 4 wheel drive, 1/2 ton pickup truck. I have owned this vehicle since it was brand new. It has 200,000 miles on it and has been well maintained.

My 4 wheeled girlfriend possesses the following:
350 cid
Throttle body fuel injection
Cold A/C
Automatic transmission
Power steering
Power brakes with ABS
200,000 miles and averages 18 miles a gallon

I have been trying to resolve a problem that affects the Idle Air Control Valve. Every month or so the truck will run rough and will not throw a code. I remove the IACV and it appears clean, without gummy residue. I replace the IACV with my spare valve and it's good for another thirty days.

I have had the dealer check out the system and they find nothing wrong. I have rebuilt the injection system, rebuilt the entire fuel system, replaced the TPS, all the temp sensors, the vacuum lines, and the MAP sensor. Do you have any ideas on what to do next to resolve this problem?

Thanks,
Tank

A. This is an interesting problem Tank. I have never seen or heard of this one.

I would say the next time it happens, just unplug the valve and plug it back in. If it starts working again, then I would suspect something electrical. If it stays the same, try removing it and reinstalling the same one. If it starts working again, then there is something hanging it up.

Other than that, I really don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry.

It's ironic you said "Good morning" sine it's about 4:00 am and I've been answering questions since I got home at 6:00 pm last night.
