Nissan Pickup Runs Rough, Loses Power
Q. Hey Vincent, I have a 1991 Nissan pickup 2WD 5 speed manual transmission. 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. My problem is that it sounds like when I give it gas it is flooding and is idling rough. I have changed the fuel filter that is under the hood and have changed the spark plugs. Actually it had a tune up about three months ago. It has 162,000 miles on it.
I am able to give it about half throttle though it runs rough, but if I give more than that it loses power but never dies. Like I said sounds like it is flooding out. I talked to a mechanic and he said that it could be the fuel pump but he wasn't sure because if it was it wouldn't be able to even run the way it was. So I come to you. What would you suggest? I would really appreciate it.
Thank you,
ChrisA. Knowing this truck and this engine as I do, the first thing I would look at is the Throttle Position Sensor/Switch (TPS). The contacts go bad and tell the engine it's at full throttle when it's not.
