Ford Aerostar Not Horny

Q. I have a 1986 Ford Aerostar the horn quit working. The relay switch clicks when the horn is pressed. The switch is simply inserted into a hole in the chassis of the van. What do I need to look for to get the horn working?

Thanks,
Brad

A. If you have cruise control in your truck, then you have a horn relay. No cruise, no relay.

I would check for power at the horns while someone presses the horn button. If you have power then the horn itself is bad. If there is no power, then you can try jumping the yellow/light blue and dark blue wires at the horn relay. That should make the horn sound. If not, then the relay is bad or there is no power to the relay. The yellow/light blue should be hot. That comes directly from fuse 16.

If that works jump the yellow/light green wire to ground. If the horn sounds then the relay, horns and wiring are all good. Now the problem is in the horn switch or the speed control switch.

Without cruise, power goes from fuse 16 through the yellow/light blue to the horn switch and then from the horn switch to the horns through the dark blue wire. The horns themselves are grounded to complete the circuit.
