Subaru Losing Coolant

Q. Dear Vincent: My 1991 Subaru Loyal 4WD, A/T has 90,000 miles on it. It has been losing power since a year ago and I did not pay too much attention on that. Suddenly I found a lot (pints) of coolant leaks out form the exhaust when I warming the engine (I rev to 4,000 rpm) this morning. I have been told it might be a blown head gasket!

However, no oil was found in the coolant neither coolant in the engine oil. I am a biologist and not a mechanic so please help me out!

Thanks a million.
Cheng

A. It sure does sound like a blown head gasket to me. A blown head gasket will not, usually, dump coolant in the oil so that is not something that can be relied upon to confirm it. A compression test will definitely confirm it however.
