Hot Battery

Q. I have a 1992 F-150, 5.0 liter V-8 and the battery negative side of it gets hot the pole does every time I try to start the vehicle. What's up? Bad negative ground or is it the starter??

A. Usually when the negative battery post gets hot like this is because of a bad or dirty connection. I would take the terminal off and clean or replace it. Also clean the battery post so it's nice and shiny. You can get a battery post/terminal cleaner at any parts store for cheap and they do a good job. Also make sure the connection is tight. If you tighten the terminal all the way and you don't get a good grip, replace the terminal.
