B220 Idle Problem
Q. I have a 1993 Mazda B2200 and it is idling erratically and then decides to die and repeat this constantly, but only without a load (I mean in park or in neutral) It is fuel injected. I just had the mass air sensor replaced ($1300.) and it still runs like s#*t PLEASE HELP ME...
Sincerely
BryanA. There are several things that can cause an erratic idle as you describe. First thing I would do is check the basics such as vacuum lines, PCV valve and ignition timing. I would also check the ignition wires as well.
If the basics check out okay, then you have a problem in the fuel injection system. It could be a leaking or malfunctioning fuel injector or a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator. There might be a bad O2 sensor or any one of a number of sensors gone bad. The ECM itself could be bad as well.
There are just too many things that can cause this problem for me to say, definitively, which is causing it. The best thing to do is to get the fuel system scanned and find out exactly where the problem is.
