Dodge Durango ABS Light On
Q. Good day Vincent, I am very happy to find such a useful web site and I think I'll find the answer to my question now. I have a 1999 Dodge Durango SLT Plus with 5.9 liter engine that has now 74,000 kilometers. I bought it new in November 1999 from the official dealer in Lebanon "Fawzi Khouri & Sons". Six months ago the ABS light started showing but not continuously thus the ABS stops functioning when the light is on.
When the vehicle is still cool, morning, it will drive for about 20 minutes before the light shows. Then the light starts showing and the ABS ceases. I took the vehicle to the agent workshop and after testing they were not sure where the problem comes from and they asked me to change the whole ABS computer module at a cost of $1,400.00 excluding workmanship.
Now I am driving my Durango without ABS waiting to find somebody who can advise me on the solution. I believe I found him.
Thank you in anticipation,
RamziA.
If the ABS light is on, then there is a code stored in the ABS control unit. The Dodge dealer, or any shop with a scan tool that is ABS compatible, can retrieve this code and see what it indicates. If the Dodge dealer can't get the codes, it is possible the Antilock Brake Controller (CAB) unit itself is bad.At this mileage it should still be under warranty, so I would call Chrysler Customer service, the number is in your owners manual, and file a complaint with Chrysler and make an appointment to see the factory representative. He will be able to help you.
I'm sorry, but since there is a four wheel ABS and a two wheel RABS systems, and any one component, one of four wheel speed sensors, Hydraulic Control Unit, etc., can cause the light to come on, this is the best I can do for you. We need to know what that stored code is.
