E-150 Won't Shift

Q. Hi Vince. I have a 1986 Ford E-150 van, F.I, 302, OD Transmission. About a year ago the engine caught fire and just recently I replaced a lot of vacuum hoses and some wiring. I also had to replace the computer module because some of the injectors were not firing. I also replaced the transmission TV cable. It runs very well now except it will not shift out of first gear, although it did shift before it caught on fire. I am sure I have the TV cable adjusted correctly. What's up? Could it just be a clogged filter?

A. What I would try is disconnecting the TV cable and driving it. If it shifts, then it's because the cable was not adjusted correctly. If it doesn't, then you have an internal transmission problem. You can try a fluid and filter change to see if it clears up. if not, then it will have to be opened up.

Also, there was a TSB issued on the TV shift control pressure. There was an adjustment to the control system to lower the shift pressure. A transmission shop will have this information and can do the procedure.
