300-ZX Alarm

Q. I have a 1996 Nissan 300-ZX and I am experiencing problems with the security system. It seems to be activated for no apparent reason. My question is, how do I disconnect the system? Also, other than the fact I will no longer have a security system, are there other side affects from having the system disarmed?

Thanks for your assistance,
David

A. Deactivating the security system should have no negative effect on the operation of the vehicle. The only problem that might arise (and I'm not 100% sure of this) is the starter lockout may kick in. In addition to sounding an alarm, the system also cuts power to the starting system so the car will not start.

I have never disabled the security system in a 300-ZX so I can't be sure if it will be a problem. The only way to know for sure is to unplug the Theft Warning Control Unit (TWCU) and try it. If you can still start the engine, then you're set. If not, you will have to actually troubleshoot the system and repair it.

The TWCU is located under the passenger side dash. Remove the lower dash cover and look at the dash cross member. It's under the blower motor, behind the cross member.
