Volkswagen Jetta No Start
Q. Hey Vin, Thanks for all your help in the past. 1986 Volkswagen Jetta 5-speed, A/C, no power steering, gas 170,000 miles. On occasion it refuses to start. Plenty of crank but it acts like no gas. One time when I started the car the horn sounded continuously until I shut it down, then it wouldn't start.
If I play around with the vacuum lines on the top of the air filter I can usually get it to go. I have replaced most of the vacuum lines in that area. Just had a state inspection and the mechanic said the car passed the emissions test no problem.
Thanks again,
MikeA. You do have a weird one here Mike. I guess I would have to start at the beginning. See what's missing when it won't start, fuel or spark. If you have spark, then I would look for a problem in the fuel pump circuit, probably the fuel pump or fuel pump relay.
I have no idea what the horn has do with anything. I don't remember the 1986 Volkswagon Jetta coming with factory alarms.
