Honda Accord Has A Flashing SRS Light

Q. I started noticing that the SRS light comes on and go off, and comes back on again and stays on for few seconds and go off, and it keeps doing this number while I'm driving. I understand that the light should stay on if there is something wrong with the SRS system, but I don't know why my light comes on and go off like that.

Honda Accord Has A Flashing SRS Light

Please advise what I should do. I don't like taking my car to a dealer just because they charge, in my opinion, a little too much.

  • 1998 Honda Accord
  • 3.0 liter V-6
  • Automatic transmission
  • 144,000 miles
  • Fuel Injection
  • ABS Brakes
  • P/S, A/C, Cruise control

A. The light should be on steady. A self-diagnosis circuit is built into the SRS unit; when the ignition switch is turned ON, the SRS indicator light comes on and goes off after about six seconds if the system is operating normally.

If the light does not come on, or does not go off after six seconds, or if it comes on while driving, it indicates an abnormality in the system. The system must be inspected and repaired as soon as possible.

There is no procedure given to Display and Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes without a Scan Tool so you will need to let the Honda Dealer to extract the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) for the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
