Buick Regal Brake Lights Don't Work
Q. Dear Vincent, I have a 1992 Buick Regal. It has 120,000 miles and a 3.8 liter engine. The brake system is ABS. Recently I have noticed that when I step on the brakes the brake light on my luggage rack goes on, but the tail light brake lights do not. I tested all the bulbs and they are good, and when I put my turn signals on the bulbs that are supposed to go on blink.
I would have just believed this to be the brake switch but the brake lights on the luggage rack works. Is it possible to still be the brake switch. I haven't attempted to replace it because I don't know if it's the problem or a short.
Also, the turn signal switch in my car has been replaced recently. The only brake light I see normally is the luggage rack one so I'm not sure if this happened before or after the turn switch was replaced, but can that be causing my problem?
Thank you,
JosephA. First, there may be more than one "brake switch" involved Some cars use a separate brake switch to control the third stop light. A schematic would be of great help here. Also could be a bad turn signal switch as the circuit goes through the turn signal switch to the rear lights
