Dodge Durango DTCs P1757 And P1762

Q. Hi, I have a 2001 Dodge Durango that seems to have a transmission problem. My check engine is currently on and the vehicle either has a long delay shifting from first gear to second gear or it seems to start out in third gear. I have connected a OBD-II to the vehicle and the codes are as follows:

Dodge Durango DTCs P1757 And P1762
  • P1757 - GOV Press Not Equal To Target @ 15-20 PSI.
  • P1762 - Gov Press Sen Offset Volts Too Low or High.

I would like to do the repair myself if it is at all possible. Any help or suggestions on what I should check/troubleshoot for would be greatly appreciated.

  • 2001 Dodge Durango R/T
  • 5.9 liter
  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,000 Miles
  • ABS brakes
  • P/S, A/C, Cruise control

I've read some articles that my vehicle may have a faulty Governor Pressure Sensor and a Governor Pressure Solenoid. If this is the problem, Would I be able to check the unit if it's faulty? (appearance, voltage, etc.) Any un-installing information would be great.

Thank you for the great information.

A. I don't think this is one you can handle yourself. To test the Governor Pressure Sensor and Governor Pressure Solenoid you need to measure the actual governor pressure. If your scan tool can do this, then you can do the troubleshooting procedure. If not, you will need to take it to a Dodge dealer to have it tested.

Before doing anything I would go to the dealer and find out if the vehicle is still in warranty. I believe it might be. If so then Dodge will do any testing and repair under the warranty.

As a point of information, for what it's worth. There is a group trying to file a class action lawsuit against Chrysler about these transmissions. A talk with the factory representative may prove productive if it is out of warranty.
